His kitchens, which he admits are fancy and certainly not cheap, with an average price tag of $80,000, grace substantial homes around the world, but Mal Corboy moved to New Zealand as a train driver.
So how did he end up becoming one of the world’s top kitchen designers with a manufacturing business to boot?
“Well, I got here and realised there was one train and two drivers. I needed to do something else,” the Aussie said, laughing.
Mr Corboy had a background in cabinet making and a long-held passion for design, so voila – Mal Corboy Design was born.
He sold his manufacturing arm in 2006 after more than 10 years in production – he said it was too much hassle – but his designs are still sought after.
Since 2002, Mr Corboy has won 22 awards, including prestigious international gongs, and he has been both Australia and New Zealand’s kitchen designer of the year… More
